Wow. I can’t believe that it’s been almost 6 months since I made a post!
Who am I kidding? Yes I can.
Q1 (as the finance bros say) has always been a difficult one for me. The highs of the holidays give way to the lows of a prairie winter. That plus some significant event anniversary dates at the end of March mean I usually don’t accomplish much during the first few months of the year.
As usual, I did almost nothing this year physically. I sure ate a lot and watched a lot of movies!
About three weeks ago I finally convinced myself to go to the gym. A combination of guilt about not progressing, really feeling my physical decline and some of that spring energy convinced me to get back to the gym. It went fine, I only did a short time on the treadmill and elliptical. I was proud of myself for getting back there and felt positive about continuing.
THEN THE WEEKEND HIT and I did nothing for 2 days as I routinely did. I woke up one morning and my hip was killing me! I think I stretched out the muscles and overworked them a bit ant the gym after not using them for months and then, didn’t use them for 2 days and they seized right up. I struggled through for a week or so, walking as little as possible and hoping it would get better. I also had a couple of events to attend where I needed up walking a lot and things got worse… My quad muscles, especially in my left leg had to compensate for my hip flexor and they got all wonky. Like jolts of pain causing me to make noises kind of wonky. I struggled through for a while and finally went to physio last Saturday. She confirmed what I thought. Hip flexor stress and then quads overcompensating.
So now I’ve got some stretches to do and hopefully I’ll heal up and get back at it soon.
This kind of thing has been one of my major fears for the past few months (as I felt my fitness decline and did nothing about it) that I would sustain an injury and just be done for ever and not be able to reverse my decline.
BUT THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
For the past few weeks I’ve been working on my eating habits: intermittent fasting and eating healthier when I do eat. I’ve only ordered in or gone for fast food 2 times and that’s been for a McDouble and a Diet Coke. A huge win compared to my previous normal order and frequencies. So I’ve managed to take off 16.5 lbs and I’m not stopping. I’m Doing whatever I can till I can get walking a lot and hitting the gym again to work on fitness.
